Checking on the lace crop!
The prime time for Queen Anne's lace is over. Some places the blooms have moved on to the ball of stems. Around the corner from the house where a house now stands was once an open field that every year was full of Queen Anne's lace. Once many years ago, one or the other us - probably I, as I am more prone to puns and plays on words than David was - commented that it looked like the Queen would have a particularly good crop of lace this year.
After that we never failed to repeat the pun when the Queen Anne's lace bloomed. And of course it came to my mind often in the last month or so as I looked at the flowers along the road on the way home.
This time next year, unless I make a drive to the country, I'm unlikely to see much Queen Anne's lace. As of July 14, I will be living in an apartment near downtown Little Rock. I am both ready and not ready to make the move. I'm ready because it will make my life easier in a lot of ways, and it will be easier to stay connected to my friends, most of whom live in Little Rock. And of course I'm not ready because it involves moving from the home and the neighborhood I shared with David.
Tomorrow morning a few people from my family are arriving, and they are going to help me with the task of sorting and separating and culling and packing. I will get rid of a lot (my apartment, which is a temporary situation, as I will probably buy a condo once I sell the house, is 600 square feet!), I will store some things, and I will take some things with me. And I know there will be lots of stories to tell as we go through things, and hard decisions, and probably tears. I'm grateful to have family who want to come and help me do this, as I definitely could not do it alone.
I like the apartment, and I like the neighborhood, and I believe I am going to like living in the city. There won't be as much wildlife to watch - saw a raccoon and three pups in the yard last week - but there will be people to watch, and that's fun also.
One other little piece of news - my granddaughter's full name is Lily Piper O'Brien, so she has a middle name. They made the move to Dublin yesterday. And I can't end this without including a new picture of her, now could I!
